In our latest work within the ALLEGRO project, we explored the integration of DV-QKD systems into amplified fiber-optic routes. Our goal was to assess how quantum communication (QC) coexists with high-speed classical data channels and determine its impact on secure communications.
📡 Key Setup & Findings
✔️ We tested QC alongside 8×100G classical channels, 7 dummy channels, and a 1×10G QKD synchronization channel.
✔️ Two test cases analyzed classical channel power levels at different amplifier settings.
✔️ As expected, higher classical power led to reduced QKD performance, highlighting the delicate balance required for quantum-secure networks.
📊 The results, detailed in Table 3 of ALLEGRO D4.1, demonstrate the successful integration of QKD into amplified routes while emphasizing the need for optimized power management.
This work is a crucial step toward designing a scalable, QKD-protocol-agnostic network architecture, bringing us closer to the future of hybrid security solutions combining QKD & PQC.
