Proud to share another milestone in the Allegro project as we refine the workflows for secure, dynamic optical networking. Today’s focus: Scenario A — LPSec DEM with Quantum Key Distribution (QKD).

In this scenario, our SDN controller plays a central role by gathering the public key and ID of the destination termination point (TpB), forwarding them to the agent at the source (TpA1) along with local Key Manager (KM) details.

The process unfolds with:

  • OPEN_CONNECT functions to establish connections between KMs at both sites.
  • Generation and synchronization of a Key Stream ID (KSID), enabling secure retrieval and coordination of quantum keys.
  • Exchange of public keys and an encrypted KxF header pattern between agents via the SDN controller.
  • Both ends establishing readiness for encrypted communication over the optical connection.

This workflow not only demonstrates secure key management across distributed optical sites but also showcases seamless SDN-QKD integration — a promising step toward resilient and quantum-secure optical infrastructures.

Exciting times ahead for secure, software-defined networking!
