As part of the ALLEGRO project, we’re redefining how optical networks are managed and automated through a hierarchical SDN control architecture — enabling both partial and full disaggregation.
Key features include:
✅ Hierarchical SDN Control:
An Optical SDN controller configures discrete transceivers, line systems, and optionally delegates to Optical Line System (OLS) SDN controllers or OMS-specific SDN controllers (e.g., for ILA tuning).
✅ Disaggregated Control Functions:
ALLEGRO supports externalized operations such as path computation, path validation, and closed-loop control — paving the way for smarter, more adaptive networks.
✅ Digital Twin Integration:
We’re exploring closed-loop automation using digital twins to simulate and optimize network behavior in real time.
✅ ALLEGRO Innovations:
- Advanced control of WP3 components like programmable PICs and OpenROADM-based amplifiers
- Seamless integration of complex Line Systems via dedicated controllers
- Telemetry-driven automation to maximize efficiency and responsiveness
This is a huge step forward in enabling programmable, intelligent, and vendor-agnostic optical infrastructures.
