🔍 Part of the ALLEGRO Project
To support a diverse ecosystem of network elements—ranging from TAPI telemetry and transponders to EDFAs and ROADMs—the ALLEGRO project proposes a flexible, scalable, and interoperable envelope encoding strategy for telemetry data exchange.
📦 What’s inside this strategy?
🔹 Header – Metadata including source, destination, timestamp, and data model version
🔹 Payload – Device-specific data (e.g., telemetry readings, transponder configs)
🔹 Payload Descriptor – Format/schema info to ensure accurate interpretation
🔹 Integrity Check – Checksum or signature for authenticity and integrity
📊 Two encoding options under consideration:
- JSON: Great for ease of development, human readability, and cross-language support
- Protocol Buffers (Protobuf): Optimal for high-speed, real-time telemetry (e.g., transponders)
This approach ensures seamless integration, standardization, and cross-vendor compatibility, aligning with our broader mission to enable intelligent, programmable optical networks in Europe and beyond.
