Key Contributions:

  • Evaluates point-to-multipoint (P2MP) transceiver deployment in metro-core as an extension/alternative to point-to-point (P2P) systems.
  • Performs cost and OSNR budget analyses, showing that when light-trees of up to ~120 km are feasible, P2MP can lead to lower transceiver costs and infrastructure savings.
  • Offers decision-making insight into where and when P2MP is advantageous, considering real network parameters and constraints.

This work provides a foundation for selecting optimal architectures in evolving metro-core networks.
