“Design and Demonstration of an O-Band InP Monolithically Integrated SOA-Based Broadcast and Select Optical Space Switch”, Journal of Lightwave Technology, Vol. 43, No. 7, April 2025, pp. 3141-3152.

Highlights:
- First fully InP monolithically integrated optical space switch operating in the O-band (≈ 1310-nm region) with a broadcast-and-select topology.
- Achieved an average fiber-to-fiber insertion loss of ~10 dB per optical path and a wide optical bandwidth of ~37 nm.
- Measured OSNRs up to ~47.5 dB; demonstrated error-free performance at multiple data rates and modulation formats (10 Gb/s NRZ, 100 Gb/s PAM-4, and 100 G LWDM LR4).
- Shows promise for scalability: an 8×8 space-switch emulation exhibited comparable performance to the 4×4 version with negligible penalty.
This work supports the Allegro EU project’s vision of highly integrated, scalable photonic building blocks for next-generation optical network infrastructures.
