As part of our ongoing work in the Allegro Project, we’ve completed an in-depth evaluation of the proposed network architecture using a realistic scenario inspired by actual metro-regional DWDM networks.
📡 The studied network architecture mirrors a real-world deployment with:
- Aggregation nodes (blue) connected in “horseshoe” topologies
- Regional (red) and National (green) hubs at the metro core level
- Interconnection with the National backbone to support wide-area traffic exchange
- Support for traffic from mobile and fixed access networks, including PON OLTs
💡 Key Highlights:
- The horseshoe topology varies from 1 to 7 Aggregation nodes
- Core mesh (red links) connects all regional and national nodes across a macro-region
- A dedicated Data Center (DC) node supports macro-regional cloud/data needs
- The architecture ensures efficient aggregation, flexibility, and scalable interconnection across administrative domains
🌐 This design reflects real operator constraints and aims to ensure future-ready transport infrastructure, ready to handle high-throughput, low-latency services at scale.
Excited to keep advancing optical and transport architectures with such rich real-world grounding!
