Allegro Project Update: Enhancing QKD Performance with Receiver-Side Filtering

One of the key challenges in co-propagation Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) is the noise caused by Raman scattering and broadband detector sensitivity. At Allegro, we’re tackling this by improving spectral filtering at the receiver side — a critical step to maximize signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and overall system performance.

🧪 In our latest work, we explored combinations of narrow-band filters (NBFs) with a 0.25 nm width, along with non-centred bandpass filters (BPFs). This hybrid approach is aimed at reducing out-of-band noise while preserving industrial scalability.

🎯 Key filter characteristics we target:

  • High extinction ratio
  • Low insertion loss (IL)
  • Strong rejection of counter-propagating Raman noise

These advancements are pushing the boundaries of secure QKD deployments in real-world optical networks. Stay tuned for more updates from our Allegro journey!
